Ferran Torres: I hope Robert Lewandowski joins Barcelona
Ferran Torres has thrown his support behind Barcelona’s bid for Robert Lewandowski and hopes the Bayern Munich legend joins this summer.
Barcelona have made Lewandowski their number one target for the summer transfer window and they have been in talks to sign the former Borussia Dortmund star since March.
Lewandowski is keen to make the move to Camp Nou as he would like one final challenge at a bit club before the end of his career.
What did Torres say?
"The fact that Robert Lewandowski is motivated to come to Barcelona is a source of pride. I hope he reaches an agreement and can come", Torres said to Cadena COPE's El Partidazo.
Lewandowski’s contract in Munich expires in 2023 and he has made a number of public statements in recent weeks over his desire to leave Bayern.
Last Monday, the 33-year-old told reporters while on international duty with Poland that he sees his Bayern career as over.
What did Lewandowski say?
“My era at Bayern is over,” Lewandowski said.
WHO ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD?
“I don't see any possibility to continue playing for this club anymore.
“Bayern’s a serious club and I believe they won’t keep me, I don't want to play there anymore. A transfer is the best solution. I hope they don't stop me.”
This led to an ugly war of words developing between Lewandowski and Bayern officials over recent days.
Bayern are desperate to keep Lewandowski next season but have begun looking around for possible replacements given the striker’s determination to leave.
However, there is also no guarantee that Barcelona will be able to afford Lewandowski given the Blaugrana’s well-documented financial problems.
