Bayern ruin spectacular Man Utd transfer
Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Thomas Müller on a new contract, report Christian Falk, Florian Plettenberg and Fabrizio Romano.
The 34-year-old striker and attacking midfielder had an expiring contract with the southern German club and was reportedly being discussed as a potential option at Manchester United, according to BILD. Due to his new contract, Müller will remain at the Allianz Arena at least until the summer of 2025.
Müller was also of interest to Erik ten Hag's club last winter, but at the time he opted for a longer stay at Bayern Munich. Plettenberg states that a departure to United was never seriously discussed.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel personally spoke to the Bayern icon to convince him to stay at the club longer. Indeed, it had been known for some time that the Bavarians intended to extend Müller's contract.
Although the 126-time German international is no longer always assured of a starting place, his value as a leader and face of the club is undisputed. Müller has played no fewer than 684 games for the German Rekordmeister, scoring 237 goals and providing 261 assists. The attacker has also worn the captain's armband on several occasions.
Man Utd's Bundesliga targets
Müller isn't the only Bundesliga star who has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford. Serhou Guirassy's name is still being discussed as an option to strengthen United's attack.
The 27-year-old striker is one of the absolute standouts for VfB Stuttgart this season, who are surprisingly fourth in the Bundesliga. In 15 games, the 12-time Guinean international has recorded a whopping 18 goals and two assists.
Due to a clause in his contract, Guirassy can be signed in January for €17.5 million by the Red Devils, though club legend Mikael Silvestre recently advised them against signing the Stuttgart hotshot.
