Florian Wirtz has not yet committed to staying at Bayer Leverkusen next season, despite the fact the Bundesliga club are willing to offer him a new contract.

The 20-year-old is wanted by every top European club and Leverkusen have reportedly set an asking price of €130 million for the Germany international.

Wirtz, who has seven goals and 11 assists in 21 games in the Bundesliga and Europa League so far this season, has played a key role in Leverkusen’s hugely-impressive form in 2023-24 and he has been touted for a move to Bayern Munich.

SportBild, as per iMiaSanMia, have reported: “Despite all indications that Florian Wirtz will stay at Bayer Leverkusen next season, there's still an 'open back door'. Player and father/agent have not committed at 100%.

“Leverkusen have set a price tag of over €130m for Wirtz, regardless of whether he leaves this or next summer. There's even talk of €150m in Leverkusen.

“All European top clubs, including Bayern, are monitoring the situation. Should Xabi Alonso stay at Leverkusen next year, Wirtz is also likely to stay. Bayer are even willing to offer Wirtz another new contract.

“At the moment, there are no concrete talks - neither about an extension nor a transfer.”

In November, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that Wirtz wasn’t keen on heading abroad just yet, as he looks to continue his progress in Germany.

Regardless, Chelsea and Liverpool are known admirers of Wirtz, while FootballTransfers reported that Manchester City considered a move for the Bayer Leverkusen star last summer.

Wirtz currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €37.4m, although Leverkusen would not even consider selling him for that cheap. It’s understood that any interested party will have to pay over €100m for the attacking midfielder, who signed a contract extension at the Bundesliga club in 2022.

However, while it looks likely that Wirtz will stay at Leverkusen, the fact he hasn’t committed yet means the door remains open for Bayern, Liverpool, Chelsea or someone else to pounce.
