Three Chelsea players Mourinho could sign if he replaces Tuchel at Bayern Munich
Thomas Tuchel is under massive pressure at Bayern Munich and faces a race against time to save his job.
The ex-Borussia Dortmund head coach replaced Julian Nagelsmann at the Allianz Arena in early 2023, but his first year in charge has been largely underwhelming.
Tuchel did lead Bayern to the Bundesliga title last season, however he relied on a Dortmund slip-up on the final day of the season and a late winner from Jamal Musiala to achieve that feat.
Furthermore, the humiliating 3-0 defeat against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday has ensured the spotlight is on Tuchel right now. He was slammed in the German media following that loss and Jose Mourinho has sensationally been linked with replacing him at Bayern.
The Portuguese manager was sacked by AS Roma in January and has reportedly been taking German lessons ahead of a possible move to Munich.
If Mourinho does take over, he will no doubt have a say in Bayern’s summer transfer activity and three current Chelsea players could be excellent additions for the Bavarian outfit.
Trevoh Chalobah
Bayern Munich already have a solid first-choice centre-back pairing in the form of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae, but adding Trevoh Chalobah to their roster would be an excellent idea.
The Englishman has been a rather underrated player during his time in Chelsea’s first-team and would be a more than adequate back-up who is also capable of playing at full-back.
Bayern were heavily linked with a move last summer due to Tuchel’s desire to bring Chalobah with him from Chelsea, but there’s no reason why a move shouldn’t happen even if Tuchel leaves.
Eric Dier’s arrival in January was rather underwhelming given his decline over the past few years and Matthijs de Ligt appears to be on his way out, so landing Chalobah would be an excellent piece of business.
Ian Maatsen
Bayern’s upcoming summer transfer window may unfortunately be dominated by departures and Alphonso Davies would be the more high-profile.
The Canada international is being heavily pursued by Real Madrid and Bayern may be forced to sell this summer due to the fact his current contract expires in 2025.
The Bavarians would be losing one of the very best attacking left-backs in world football and while Ian Maatsen wouldn’t replicate Davies’ ability, he would be an excellent option.
The Dutchman has impressed during the early weeks of his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are willing to offload him permanently this summer.
Raheem Sterling
Cole Palmer (10) and Nicolas Jackson (seven) are the only Chelsea players with more Premier League goals than Raheem Sterling (five) this season, yet many Blues fans have grown frustrated with the former Manchester City winger.
Despite his experience at the very top level, Sterling has been widely criticised by Chelsea supporters, with a large majority of the club’s fanbase believing he doesn’t deserve to be included in their first-choice starting XI.
Furthermore, with the Blues’ continued desire to sign the best young talents around, Sterling may soon be deemed surplus to requirements, especially if Jackson begins playing as a left winger on a regular basis.
As a result, Bayern could pounce and reunite Sterling with his ex-England team-mate Harry Kane in attack. Serge Gnabry hasn’t been his usual self this season and has recently been linked with replacing Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain, so adding Sterling could be a wise move for the Bavarians.
