Man Utd told ‘something changed’ as they rival Arsenal for Bayern fan favourite
Manchester United and Arsenal have seen their chances of landing Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel increase, according to a report from Germany.
The 18-year-old striker is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in world football, having joined FCB from Ligue 1 side Rennes in the summer of 2022 for €20 million.
Although he has struggled to earn game time at Bayern this season, his performances have earned the acclaim of supporters and also caught the eye of some major clubs. He has scored six goals in 28 appearances this term but has been given just 735 minutes.
Sport Bild reports that Man Utd have joined Arsenal in the race for the teenager and that the prospect of him leaving the Allianz Arena side continues to increase.
Man Utd ahead for Tel?
Manchester United have been told that “something changed” in Tel’s thoughts when they started to “put the feelers” out to him.
It had been suggested that Thomas Tuchel was forcing him out of Bayern due to a lack of minutes, but Bild seems to point to the Red Devils’ interest as being a turning point in his thought process.
“Manchester United are not the first English club to be interested in the 18-year-old France U21 international. But something has changed,” Sport Bild reports.
“Until now, Tel had blocked all attempts to lure people away from Bayern. But now he is seriously thinking about a change option in the summer. The task in England could appeal to him.”
Tel’s agent has added fuel to the fire that Tel could leave, opening the door for a transfer with comments made to the media.
“We have to consider all options because Mathys knows that he is valuable and will be a top player,” he said.
The situation at Bayern is, however, a fluid one due to the unknown of the new coach.
Tel has previously indicated that he wants to succeed in Munich and if he were to be promised more regular game time, that could sway a decision over his future.
