Bayern apologise as star calls Leverkusen boss a 'WAN*ER'

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Sven Ulreich has apologised to Bayer Leverkusen boss Simon Rolfes for calling him a 'wan*er.'

A new rivalry is developing between Bayern and Bayer. Last season, Leverkusen managed to dethrone the Bavarians to win their first-ever Bundesliga title.

They would then go on to win the DFB-Pokal as well while Bayern endured their first trophyless season in over a decade. During the summer, the footballing rivalry was extended to off-the-pitch matters when Bayer defender Jonathan Tah became the subject of transfer interest from the Munich side.

The saga ultimately ended in a stalemate. Tah stayed put but he will leave Leverkusen (likely for Bayern) on a free transfer next summer. At the height of the struggle over his future, Bayer CEO Fernando Carro ruffled feathers when he thundered in a meeting with fans that he would not do business with Bayern director Max Eberl if it were up to him.

Ulreich hits out at Rolfes

Back on the pitch, there was a great sense of anticipation ahead of last weekend's clash between these two behemoths. While the goals certainly delivered - both Robert Andrich and Aleksandar Pavlovic scored beauties from outside the box - the overall game, a 1-1 draw, failed to live up to the hype.

Late in the match, with Leverkusen desperately clinging on to their point away from home, Bayern No.2 Sven Ulreich was recorded by fans accusing his opponents of timewasting in a clip that subsequently went viral.

Ulreich was heard lashing out at Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes. "Hey, you bum over there, stop it," the goalkeeper yelled. "Hey, sit down, Rolfes, you wan*er."

The clip was sent to Bayern by Munich-based newspaper tz, which prompted a reply from the club, stating that the outburst happened in "the heat of the moment" and that Ulreich apologised for it.

This likely won't be the last controversial incident in this budding Bundesliga rivalry.
