Bayern Munich aim to put HUGE deal 'under the Christmas tree'
Bayern Munich failed to defeat Dortmund in Der Klassiker this weekend but the German giants are hoping to shake off any disappointment with a gift ‘to put under the Christmas tree.’
Jamal Musiala struck a late equaliser to maintain Bayern’s unbeaten start to the league season but the result still proved disappointing for the Bundesliga leaders despite their seven-point cushion at the top of the table.
Musiala’s goal highlighted the 21-year-old’s importance to the team, particularly in the absence of top scorer Harry Kane, and showcased why Bayern are desperate to tie their talisman down to a new contract.
The midfielder’s contract is set to expire in 2026 and he has so far resisted any temptation to extend his deal, prompting interest from the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona.
However, Bayern director Max Eberl has revealed his optimism at Musiala penning a new contract in the coming weeks, admitting he would love to wrap up ‘intensive’ talks and give fans something to cheer before Christmas.
"We talk very intensively, well, a lot,” Eberl told Sky Sport Germany about Musiala’s future. “I would like to put it under the Christmas tree for everyone, but I can't promise that today."
Musiala proving to be Bayern’s MVP after Kane injury
Eberl has remained confident in Bayern’s ability to keep hold of Musiala, insisting that the German international will become the face of the club if he chooses to extend.
Musiala, too, has recently hinted towards his desire to remain with Bayern and his ever-emerging role as the creative focal point of Vincent Kompany’s side has seemingly helped convince the youngster over his future.
The former Chelsea youngster is on course to have his best goalscoring season yet for Bayern, having netted six times in the opening 10 league games of the campaign.
Musiala could be relied on for even more goals after Kane limped off in the first half against Dortmund with a thigh injury, which is set to sideline him for Bayern’s next game versus Bayer Leverkusen in the DfB-Pokal on Tuesday.
