Davies will undergo surgery later on Wednesday and he will be out for several months.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury during this international break in the CONCACAF Nations League third and fourth playoff match against the United States.

Davies out for the rest of the season

He was forced off early in the game and after tests the worst news has now been delivered.

Davies will miss the rest of the season and will not return back to action until late 2025 at the earliest.

Davies is the latest in a long line of high-profile footballers to tear their ACL, following on from the likes of Rodri of Man City, Spain teammate Dani Carvajal and Man Utd's Lisandro Martinez earlier this season.

The optimal period of recovery from an ACL is six months but much of the process is in the hands of the player. If they are compliant with the exercises and regimes provided to them then the process can be expedited, but the utmost care has to be taken to ensure that there is no relapse.

There have been numerous compliants from players and coaches that the increased number of matches are creating an ACL epidemic that is ruining careers.

It is devastating news for Bayern, who have also lost another key defender at this critical stage of the season.

According to Florian Pettenberg, central defender Dayot Upamecano has been diagnosed with loose bodies in his left knee and will be out for several weeks.

Upamecano also picked up this injury during the recent Nations League matches as France beat Croatia on penalties in their UEFA quarter final in Paris.

These injuries leave Bayern severely weakened in defence ahead of the Champions League quarter-final tie against
