Aguero reacts to retirement rumours

Barcelona forward Sergio Aguero has reacted to recent reports suggesting that he may have to retire due to health concerns, saying he remains positive over his football future.

The Argentine superstar is a new signing at Camp Nou, having arrived in the summer on a free transfer after his Manchester City contract expired.

An injury suffered in pre-season meant that he had to wait a few months to make his debut, which eventually came in a league match versus Valencia.

He scored his first goal for Barcelona in the Clasico, though it proved to be a late consolation against Real Madrid.

However, he is now set to miss at least another three months of action after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia in a game versus Alaves.

Aguero was brought off the pitch after complaining of dizziness as well as chest pains.

Barcelona subsequently released a statement confirming that Aguero will be unavailable until 2022 as he undergoes a rehabilitation process for his heart issues.

"Sergio Aguero has been subjected to a diagnostic and therapeutic process by Dr Josep Brugada," the statement read.

"He is unavailable for selection and during the next three months the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated in order to determine his recovery process."

This week, Catalunya Radio reported that the health problem is worse than initially feared and that Aguero may actually have to retire.

Aguero positive over career

Aguero has took to social media to address the reports, and although he does not confirm or deny then, he says he remains positive about his prospects of playing again.

"Given the rumors, I can say that I am following the instructions of the club's doctors, doing tests and treatment and checking my progress within 90 days. Always positive," he wrote on Twitter.

The former Manchester City man has received numerous shouts of support, including from Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni, who said:

“Regarding Kun, yes, we’ve talked and we’ve sent each other messages.

“Besides him being a player, he is a boy we appreciate a lot.

“We are sad because he is going through something no-one deserves.

“We hope he recovers and could be playing as soon as possible. We send him all our support.”
