Man Utd, PSG and Bayern all say no - Why does nobody want to sign Hazard in January?
Once considered one of the best players in the world, Eden Hazard has instead found himself relegated to the bargain basket by Real Madrid ahead of the January transfer window.
However, instead of finding a long list of clubs offering to take the Belgium international on to bolster their attacking options, Hazard and Madrid have found very few takers.
According to the Daily Mail, four of Europe’s biggest clubs have turned down the opportunity to sign Hazard in January as Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle were all approached and seemingly said no.
So what makes Hazard such a risky signing for a major club in the January window?
How many games has Hazard missed through injury?
Perhaps the most obvious reason why so many clubs are turning their nose up at Hazard is due to the fact that he’s missed so many games for Madrid due to injury.
Since the Belgium forward made the move from Chelsea to Madrid in 2019, he’s picked up no less than 13 separate injuries over the course of two years.
While that may not seem like a lot, it has actually been a huge hindrance in him adapting to his new club and as a result he’s missed no less than 58 games for Madrid over the course of two and a half campaigns.
It’s with this and the player’s age in mind that most clubs will likely take one look at Hazard and assume that such injuries will continue to plague his game in the later years of his career.
Even if the likes of Newcastle, PSG or Man Utd aren’t troubled by Hazard’s salary of €26 million per year, they probably don’t see the point in signing a player that can’t even stay fit for his current side.
