Barca set to send transfer flop to Fenerbahce
Xavi’s revolution at Barcelona continues at speed, with the iconic former midfielder focusing on getting rid of the club’s deadwood before he can hope to add to his squad.
Ferran Torres of Manchester City is the club’s main target, but raising the money to sign the Spain international forward will prove problematic due to their financial issues.
If any deal is to be done, they will have to make dramatic cuts to their team, ridding themselves of players such as Samuel Umtiti and Philippe Coutinho, who have not serious future at the club, while also selling a big-name star or two, with Frenkie de Jong likeliest to go.
One player who does appear to be on his way out, however, is Luuk de Jong.
De Jong's Barca struggles
Signed on loan from Sevilla on transfer deadline day in the summer as an alternative in attack, the Dutchman was never going to fit into the historic philosophy of the club.
When Ronald Koeman instructed his team to shell crosses into the former Newcastle man, the criticism was intense.
Koeman has gone and in has come Xavi, which was only going to spell bad news for De Jong.
With a focus on returning to ‘Barcelona’s DNA’ De Jong has a face that simply does not fit. With no prospects of game time and Barca seeking to trim their wage bill, he is an obvious player to axe.
Mundo Deportivo reports that the Catalans are ready to terminate De Jong’s contract and that Sevilla are happy to move him rapidly on.
Fenerbahce are the club that has emerged as a serious contender to sign the forward.
Although they have Dursun, who has scored five in 11, the Turkish side wish to increase their depth.
De Jong could, therefore, be heading to Turkey in January, leaving behind Barcelona and Sevilla, where he is no longer wanted.
