Real Madrid have not had the busiest summer so far in the transfer market, with their only notable signing so far being David Alaba on a Bosman transfer from Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, they have lost Sergio Ramos to PSG on a free transfer and they risk seeing Raphael Varane quit the club for Manchester United.

As such, returning coach Carlo Ancelotti knows that pre-season will be important if his side are to win a major trophy again next season.

In 2020/21, of course, the Blancos finished second in La Liga behind Atletico Madrid and were knocked out of the Champions League by Chelsea in the semi-finals in what was a trophyless campaign.

Madrid have a number of friendlies scheduled between now and the start of the Primera Division season on Saturday 14 August.

Real Madrid’s pre season friendlies

11 July v Fuenlabrada (H) - WON 3-1 (Chust, Odegaard, Mariano)

18 July v Rayo Vallecano (H) - DREW 1-1 (Isco pen)

25 July v Rangers (A)

8 Aug v Milan (N)

Real Madrid kicked off their pre-season calendar on Sunday 11 July, the day of the Euro 2020 final.

They emerged 3-1 winners in a home friendly at the Alfredo Di Stefano against Fuenlabrada. The goals were scored by young defender Victor Chust, Martin Odegaard - back from his loan spell at Arsenal - and Mariano.

The following weekend, on Sunday 18 July, Madrid could only manage a draw against Rayo Vallecano at home. Isco impressed and scored a penalty but a Victor Chust own goal ensured a share of the result.

The two remaining fixtures in pre-season see Madrid first travel to Scotland to play new champions Rangers in Glasgow.

Then on August 8, Madrid will fly to Klagenfurt in Austria to play against AC Milan in a glamour friendly. The two clubs have done lots of business together in recent years.

Madrid will kick off the new La Liga season away at Alaves on Saturday 14 August.
