Mbappe to be offered more than Messi and Neymar to stay with PSG
Paris Saint-Germain are ready to make Kylian Mbappe the best paid player in their squad in order to fend off interest for Real Madrid for the 22-year-old.
Mbappe is out of contract with PSG next summer and widely believed to be heading to the Bernabeu after admitting that he asked to leave the club in July.
However, in a subsequent interview with L’Equipe, he admitted that “anything can happen” in football as he left the door open for a contract extension to be signed.
PSG have been bullish throughout over their prospects of keeping Mbappe and they are set to throw everything they have at keeping the World Cup winner.
Indeed, they are ready to make him the best salaried player on their expensively assembled roster, with a wage that surpasses even Lionel Messi and Neymar, according to RMC. In this case, he would earn more than any other PSG player in history.
There has been no indication of what sort of wage Mbappe could expect, but it is believed that the South American pair are both receiving around €35 million per year. This figure would make them the best paid players in the game.
PSG will seek to hurry through a deal, aware that there are now less than three months until 1 January, at which point Real Madrid can formally open talks with Mbappe.
Pochettino on Mbappe
Meanwhile, head coach Mauricio Pochettino has given his take on proceedings and has praised the professionalism of Mbappe throughout.
“I’ve always seen the club be firm with Mbappe. The idea was for him to continue with us and I saw Mbappe calm,” Pochettino told Universo Valdano.
“He is a great professional and has respected his contractual situation. Kylian is a smart boy, young but mature. As a footballer, he is extraordinary. A world champion. He is the present and the future.”
Should Mbappe leave PSG for Real Madrid, it is reported that the Ligue 1 side will then seek to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, though they will face competition from Los Blancos for the Norway star.
