Busquets tells Barcelona where transfer priority must lie
Sergio Busquets believes Barcelona need to recruit impactful players in the final third if they are to continue improving under Xavi.
Former Barca midfielder Xavi appears to have catalysed a revolution at the club, as there is finally a feel-good factor back after the disappointing tenure of Ronald Koeman.
The Blaugrana were previously struggling just to qualify for the Champions League via La Liga this campaign, but there are now comfortably in the top four and have an outside chance of mounting a very late title challenge.
January was key to the team's development as Barcelona signed Ferran Torres from Manchester City, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Arsenal and Adama Traore on loan from Wolves.
They are expected to make big moves in the summer window, too.
While transfers for the likes of Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe have been mentioned, Barca will initially focus on the free transfer market again.
Club president Joan Laporta has already effectively confirmed the arrivals of Andreas Christensen from Chelsea and Franck Kessie from Milan.
He told RAC1: “We have signed a midfielder and a defender.”
Where else do Barca need to improve?
At the moment, Barcelona have Aubameyang, Torres, Adama, Memphis Depay, Luuk de Jong, Ousmane Dembele, Martin Braithwaite, Gavi and Ansu Fati as part of their attacking roster.
In the opinion of Busquets, more firepower is required.
"I think that something big is being built," he told reporters.
"If the economy allows us, we can make some good signings to complement this squad, which we have very well planned and planned because there are many young players who play a lot and have a high level.
"I think there is a lack of players who make a difference up front, which is what football is made for today, to score goals and to fight.
"With the idea that the coach has and with the calm that the president and his board have brought, let's go. We're on the right track.
"I don't know if it will be something big, but we will be there where the club deserves to fight to win everything"
