Dani Alves to stay at Barcelona into his fortieth year

Barcelona are reportedly set to offer Dani Alves a contract extension that will see him remain at the club until his forties.
The Brazilian full-back returned to the club this year following Xavi's appointment as head coach and will be rewarded with a new deal that will see him remain in the first-team squad at the Camp Nou next campaign.
Alves' current contract is set to expire this summer, but according to Diario Sport he will sign an extension.

The player with the most trophies in football history, 42, Alves has started seven games for the Blaugrana since re-joining, missing just three games, with two of those coming thanks to a red card suspension. However, he wasn't included in their Europa league squad, meaning he isn't able to help the Spanish giants progress through that competition.
He has scored one goal and assisted two in the Spanish top flight since the turn of the year.
Despite his age, Xavi has trusted his former team-mate with a starting berth, and he has helped Barcelona rediscover their form, with the side not losing a La Liga game in which Alves has featured.
The report from Diario Sport states that Xavi and Alves both want the deal to be extended, and although talks haven't begun yet, they soon will.
It's understood that Barcelona will soon open talks with Alves' representatives with a view to agreeing a contract extension for the player.
Alves' Barcelona career
If Alves does sign a one-year extension, then the deal will expire in 2023, by which time Alves will have turned 40.
He first joined Barca back in 2008 after five years at Sevilla. He arrived for £30 million, which was the third-highest fee the club had paid for a player at the time.
Alves made 391 appearances for the club in his first stint, and is set to reach the 400 mark before the end of this campaign.
