Gareth Bale looked back to his very best for Wales on Thursday night, when he scored a free-kick and then a delightful short-range finish to put Austria to the sword in a 2-1 victory for his nation.

As he pumped his chest and celebrated with his team mates after the game, millions of people in Wales celebrated alongside him through their television screens. However, in the Spanish capital of Madrid, things couldn’t have been more different.

Having pulled out of Sunday night’s El Clasico clash with Barcelona, in which Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid side lost 4-0, Bale looked far from jaded or injured for his nation just four days later and the Spanish media certainly took notice of the player’s miraculous recovery.

A Marca headline read “"One day less for Bale to stop being a problem", alongside the sub-headline: “Have you been surprised by what Bale did and his words at Real Madrid? Not at all…”

’Madrid have to fire Bale now!’

However, that wasn’t nearly the most savage attack the former Tottenham Hotspur star experienced after Thursday’s game.

On the famous and notorious rambunctious TV show El Chiringuito, TV host Cristobal Soria demanded that Madrid immediately fire Bale for his lack of respect for the club, which was apparently clear for all to see.

“He’s tramping on the club. He has to go! You have to fire him! But what do you mean June?” said Soria during his televised rant.

“He’s going to carry on lacking respect for the badge and the institution. And you want to wait until June?”

Soria’s colleagues tried to point out that Bale’s contract at Madrid is set to expire in just a few months and that the club couldn’t just fire him on the spot. But the Spanish commentator simply wasn’t having it.

“What do you mean they can’t fire him? Where does it say you can’t fire him? Show me it.”

Regardless of how Bale and Madrid behave between now and the end of the season, it’s clear that the Wales international won’t be signing a new contract with the Spanish giants in the summer.
