Haaland is the hottest transfer property in world football at the moment due to his exploits for Borussia Dortmund.

In 77 starts in all competitions for the German giants, he has scored an astonishing 80 goals.

It is that kind of form which has gained him attention from Europe's elite clubs.

Over the past 12 months, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, as well as Barcelona, have all been credited with an interest.

Most of those clubs have dropped out of the race for his signature, and it is believed three remain.

Those clubs are Barcelona, Man City and Real Madrid.

Why Barcelona are not favourites to sign Haaland

According to Spanish outfit Sport, Barcelona are third favourites to sign Haaland behind City and Madrid.

This is because the Blaugrana are now in a precarious financial situation which means they will need to achieve some inventive accounting in order to be able to fund a deal for Haaland, which will cost close to €300 million when you take into account the transfer fee, agent fees and salary.

This type of deal is much easier for City and Madrid to pull off due to their higher wealth.

Haaland's agent Mino Raiola has actually informed Barcelona president Joan Laporta of this.

In a recent meeting between the pair, Laporta told Raiola of Barca's desire to acquire Haaland.

Raiola responded by saying that the player has not yet made up his mind on his next destination, but that Barca will have trouble making the deal happen as the offers from Man City and Madrid are currently better.

Barcelona are hoping to convince Haaland to move to Camp Nou with the promise that he will spearhead a new era at the club under Xavi.
