Real Madrid's pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has been handed a boost with news the player's family will travel to Spain for discussions.

Mbappe, 23, was close to a move to the Santiago Bernabeu last summer, but his current club PSG rejected a €200 million offer from the Madrid giants.

However, Carlo Ancelotti's side are back in for Mbappe this summer, and this time he will be available on a free transfer.

The Frenchman's contract at PSG expires at the end of the season, which means Real would be able to complete a deal without paying the Parisians a fee. But, Mbappe is understood to be deliberating his future and could yet renew his current deal at the Parc des Princes.

His family are in Doha, Qatar right now, which suggests they are negotiating with the PSG owners in order to gauge what offer Mbappe could receive from the club if he were to sign an extension.

Will Mbappe choose Real Madrid or PSG?

They are weighing up their option, however, which is why Football Espana have reported that Mbappe's mother Fayza will travel to Madrid next week in order to speak to Florentino Perez and discuss what a move to Real would mean for Mbappe.

A key reason for PSG wanting to keep hold of Mbappe, other than his talent, is reportedly the Qatar World Cup later this year as they want Mbappe to be a PSG player at the time. That's according to the report from Football Espana, who believe PSG are currently making a "last-ditch" effort to convince the Mbappe family that staying at their club is the best option for Kylian.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, remain confident that Mbappe's first-choice is to join them this summer, according to Diario AS. The Spanish giants believe that Mbappe wants to play for the club starting next year and are confident that Karim Benzema can help convince Mbappe to join.

Benzema has publicly told Mbappe to sign for Real to form a front three alongside Vinicius Junior.

It had seemed as though Mbappe would leave PSG this summer, especially following their Champions League exit to Real Madrid, but he has revealed that no decision will be made until the end of the campaign so he can remain focused on finishing the season well in Paris.

Mbappe sits on 55 goal involvements in just 41 games in all competitions this season as he bids to win the Ballon d'Or for the first time.
