Marco Asensio could be set for a Real Madrid departure this summer after the Spaniard switched representation to super agent Jorge Mendes, who famously represents Cristiano Ronaldo.

When looking at Asensio’s future, so much of it depends on whether Real Madrid can close the deal to bring Kylian Mbappe to the club. If the Frenchman arrives, then it’ll be Asensio who loses out on those minutes.

That makes sense, since Asensio is already the starter whose place in the Carlo Ancelotti’s XI is the most delicate.

Over the first half of the season, Asensio and Rodrygo shared that position and, even if the Mallorcan initially made it his own to start 2022, he has lost his place in big matches, with Federico Valverde preferred in a hybrid role on the right in recent Champions League games versus Chelsea.

When Asensio's previous agent was asked about a transfer away from Real Madrid, he played down the possibility.

"We had studied a loan, but Ancelotti told him to stay. What Marco wants and wants to achieve is to succeed one hundred per cent at Real Madrid. It's his life," Horacio Gaggioli said.

Things have now changed, as Asensio has signed up with Mendes' company, GestiFute.

The club most consistently linked with the forward is Milan, who could make a play for his services this summer.

What has been said about Asensio's future?

Ancelotti was recently asked about Asensio, and said:

"He's an important player who helped us, I don't know what's going on with his future. I think he's talking to the club to renew his contract, but I can only talk about him technically."

As for the player himself, he has long verbally pledged his future to Real Madrid.

Last year he was linked with Liverpool and Arsenal, but stated a desire to continue in the Spanish capital.

"Yes, for sure,” said the Madrid star in an interview with AS when asked if he’ll be staying at the club next season.

"My intention is to continue at Real Madrid, to be great here and to contribute as best as I can. I feel that I still have a lot to give the club.

"As many already know, I’m a Madridista and I have been since I was little. I live this club, beyond just being a player, I really feel both victories and defeats. It’s from the heart."
