Real Madrid transfer update: Movement in Mbappe, Haaland deals
Real Madrid are finalising their transfer stance over key summer targets Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.
Los Blancos have long been linked with adding a world-class attacker to their ranks this summer, with Mbappe having been a hot favourite to move to the Bernabeu for the best part of a year after they launched a €200 million transfer offer for him last summer.
For a brief period, it was suggested that they could sign both the World Cup winner and Haaland, though such rumours have failed to persist.
According to a report from Di Marzio, Real Madrid are looking to finalise their plans imminently and are pursuing Mbappe in particular.
Recent days have seen the chances of Mbappe prolonging his contract at PSG improve, yet it is reported that the Spanish side want him to make his verbal agreement with them permanent. This would net the player around €50 million per year over five years, plus a signing bonus of €100m.
Meanwhile, the same source reports that Madrid have baulked at Haaland’s demands. The Norway star wants €30m per year for five years plus his agent commission is set at €70m – all before Real Madrid have paid his €75m release fee.
Manchester City are willing to offer Haaland all this, pushing him in the direction of the Premier League club.
Modric contract talks
Luka Modric is also a subject for discussion at the Bernabeu, with Di Marzio claiming that talks have been opened between the Croatia international and the club. However, these have proven fruitless thus far as Real Madrid want the player to take a pay cut.
Modric, who saw his wages slashed by 10% during the pandemic, is reportedly unwavering in his demand that his current wage be matched. His current deal expires in June, meaning he will be a free agent at the end of the season unless the situation changes.
