Mbappe agrees Real Madrid contract
PSG attacker Kylian Mbappe has agreed a contract with Real Madrid, but the transfer is not concluded, according to a report from The Athletic.
It is stated that although the 23-year-old has reached an accord with the Spanish side, no deal has yet been signed with the Bernabeu club.
Mbappe is heading towards free agency at the end of June and has been free to discuss terms with potential suitors since the beginning of January.
Real Madrid have long coveted the forward and last summer had a bid of €200 million ignored by PSG sporting director Leonardo, who held out hope at that point that Mbappe might eventually sign a new deal with the French club.
Why Mbappe to Real Madrid is now go
Despite persistent noises from the Spanish press, the party line has consistently been that he will announce his future at the end of the season, which concludes after PSG’s home match with Metz on Saturday.
It is believed that the deal will be ratified after that point, although the Ligue 1 champions are still pushing for him to change his mind.
Mbappe is seen to be absolutely central to PSG’s project and is leading France’s top flight in both goals and assists. In 216 matches with PSG, he has scored 168 goals and has created 87 more. Despite his status at Parc des Princes, in recent weeks the player’s entourage have told the media that while no decision had been made, the tendency is for him to depart.
Previous statements that a deal was done came from the Spanish media and carried less weight than this report, with The Athletic being a more reputable source of transfer news.
Indeed, this is perhaps the greatest indication yet that Mbappe will play his football at Real Madrid next season and, therefore, complete his childhood dream of turning out in the white of the Bernabeu club.
