Rodrygo put in arguably the best performance of his career last night against Manchester City as his two late goals propelled Real Madrid to a 3-1 win over their opponents and earned them a spot in the Champions League final.

The 21-year-old came on as a substitute for Toni Kroos in the 68th minute as Real Madrid were pushing for a goal, and even though Los Blancos conceded first, they were able to hit back.

The two goals helped push Rodrygo’s overall season tally for goals as well, taking it up to eight, which is his best-ever return for Real Madrid, overtaking his seven goals from 2019-20.

Rodrygo joined the club in 2019 from Santos for a mammoth €45 million fee, with Real Madrid banking on his long-term potential and hoping he could be the next great youngster to excel at the club.

He followed in the footsteps of Vinicius Jr., who joined in the previous year hoping to make a mark at the club, and they’ve both now contributed to important moments in this campaign.

Although Rodrygo hasn’t quite hit the same heights as his countryman, there is a belief that he can do so in the coming years as they evolve and have a greater influence in the side.

Over the course of his Real Madrid career, Rodrygo has scored 17 goals, and having performed so well in a Champions League semi-final, the feeling is that his moment is close and he’ll be able to grow significantly.

What is Rodrygo's transfer value?

There has also been little interest in him from other clubs, as Real Madrid have been keen on keeping hold of him and seeing him have his best years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It was earlier in this year that Newcastle United were seen as an option for the Brazilian, with the Magpies reportedly showing an interest in paying up to £33 million (€39 million) for the player, according to the Mirror.

However, a move like that seems quite unlikely, with Newcastle mainly banking on the possibility of Kylian Mbappe moving to Spain, leaving Rodrygo with fewer chance to play.

FootballTransfers values the Brazilian at €35 million, with his age, potential and status in the game taken into consideration.
