Barcelona’s core objective is to complete a deal for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski this summer, but may face financial difficulties in their pursuit.

The forward made it clear earlier this week that his desire was to leave the reigning German champions and Barcelona have also admitted that they wish to sign the player.

The Blaugrana are lining up other options in case a move for Lewandowski can’t be completed as their economic issues prevent them from acting freely in the transfer market.

Is a move for Romelu Lukaku possible?

One of the alternatives lined up by the Catalan club is Romelu Lukaku, who has endured a difficult season at Chelsea having made a return last year in a €112 million

Barcelona have previously been interested in Lukaku, back in 2020, when Ronald Koeman was their manager having worked with him before at Everton.

Lukaku is keen on leaving Stamford Bridge having failed to make a mark in his second stint at Chelsea, often being dropped by manager Thomas Tuchel.

The Belgian forward has been interested in a return to Inter, but a move like that seems difficult as the Nerazzurri can’t afford to bring him back.

Lukaku is also an option for Bayern, who are lining him up in case Lewandowski completes his move to Barcelona, but once again, it may not be a permanent transfer.

Bayern’s ideal replacement for Lewandowski is Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, but if a move is not possible, they would try to get Lukaku.

Like other clubs, Barcelona too would face issues in getting Lukaku – in recent days, it’s been said that they would struggle to complete the registrations of Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie, who they signed on free transfers after they left Chelsea and Milan respectively.

If Lukaku is to leave Chelsea, it is very likely to be a loan move as he would cost plenty for a permanent transfer – the Blues would be keen to make up most of the money they spent on buying the forward last year.
