Lewandowski’s contract in Munich expires in 2023 and he has made a number of public statements in recent weeks over his desire to leave Bayern this summer.

The 33-year-old has regularly stressed that that he sees his Bayern career as over and has been extremely critical of the club.

Barcelona have made Lewandowski their number one target for the summer transfer window and they have been in talks to sign the former Borussia Dortmund star since March.

Lewandowski is keen to make the move to Camp Nou as he would like one final challenge at a bit club before the end of his career.

But in order for Barcelona to be able to afford Lewandowski, they will need to sell at least one big-name player this summer.

De Jong has been earmarked as the most likely player they will sacrifice.

Manchester United have opened talks over signing the midfielder, but the Dutchman is still unsure whether he wants to leave Barcelona.

Indeed, De Jong has stated that he would love to play with Lewandowski at Barcelona.

What did De Jong say?

“He’s an amazing player, one of the best in the world,” De Jong said while on international duty with the Netherlands.

“It’s up to him. Of course I would like to have Lewandowski in my team.”

De Jong has failed to fulfil his potential at Camp Nou since arriving in 2019 from Ajax.

He was expected to become one of the best players in the world in his position but is not even considered a guaranteed starter anymore given the presence of Pedri, Gavi, Sergio Busquets and incoming free transfer signing Franck Kessie.
