Ter Stegen not for sale - even if De Jong refuses move
The saga surrounding Frenkie de Jong’s departure is set to continue through the summer, with Barcelona keen to sell the player to help their financial situation.
Manchester United have been interested in a move, but De Jong is eager to resolve the situation around his wages, as he’s owed millions in a deferred payment.
Finding a resolution has been difficult, and De Jong has continued to train with Barcelona as normal, going to the United States and playing in the club’s pre-season friendlies there.
To make up funds, Barcelona have reportedly considered other sales, such as that of goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who is one of the club’s few players who can coup a big fee.
Ter Stegen isn't up for sale
However, reports within Barcelona suggest otherwise, and that the club hope to retain Ter Stegen as their number one goalkeeper for the upcoming season.
Coach Xavi sees the German as an integral part of his team and has confidence in Ter Stegen returning to his best form in the upcoming campaign, as Barcelona hope to have a strong season on all fronts.
Other than Ter Stegen, Barcelona have the emerging Inaki Pena as a back-up option, but he’s seen as one to watch out for in the future rather than now.

Barcelona have to reduce their wage bill and sell players in the remaining weeks of the window to adjust their financial situation and be able to register players within La Liga’s framework.
If they aren’t able to, they have already planned to activate their third economic lever if they aren’t able to let go of any players, and that could give them an extra boost of funds that they need to register their signings.
Activating the third economic lever could give the club an additional €100 million and would allow the club to register their players, such as Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen.
