Kylian Mbappe will join Real Madrid next summer, according to respected football journalist and former footballer Jan-Aage Fjortoft.

Mbappe hit the headlines this week when it was widely reported that his new contract at PSG actually expires in 2024 and not in 2025, as had previously been thought.

Only Mbappe himself – and not PSG – would have the option of extending the deal by a further year.

Fjortoft has now taken this further and said that he expects Mbappe’s transfer to Real Madrid to be resurrected at the end of the season.

What did Fjortoft say?

“I said it when he signed: he has agreed with Qatar to stay in Paris for one season due to the World Cup. Then Real Madrid next summer,” Fjortoft said, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Mbappe had seemed destined to join Real Madrid this summer but completed a dramatic turnaround by penning a three-year extension with PSG at the end of May.

Throughout 2021-22, it had been unanimously accepted that he would sign for Madrid on a Bosman transfer when his previous PSG contract expired.

Having rejected a €200 million bid from Real Madrid for Mbappe last summer, the Frenchman was believed to have already agreed a free transfer move to the club he supported as a child.

This was reinforced by the fact that he rejected numerous offers of a PSG extension throughout the campaign.

But, in a shock twist, Mbappe decided to sign a new deal at PSG.

It was thought that the deal ran until 2025 but that now doesn’t seem to be the case.

And according to Fjortoft, the actual new contract will only delay Mbappe’s move to Madrid by one more year.

It should be noted, though, that Madrid would have to pay a transfer fee.
