Xavi started off well with Barcelona but recent results have raised concerns, with the recent Clasico defeat to Real Madrid adding to their woes.

They are also on the verge of exit in the Champions League having failed to beat Inter, and a drop to the Europa League would have serious financial consequences for the Catalan club.

Now, Barcelona are considering the possibility of a replacement, and have lined up Gallardo has a possibility in case things go wrong for Xavi.

Gallardo an option for Barcelona

According to Fichajes, the 46-year-old Argentine, who recently announced he will leave current club River Plate in December, is admired by those within the Catalan club.

Gallardo has been in charge of River Plate since 2014 having had three stints with them as a player in the past, and has been their most successful manager ever.

He led them to two Copa Libertadores’ successes in 2015 and 2018, and has won 14 trophies in total, more than any manager the club has had in the past.

Over the years, there has been plenty of interest in him, but he has stayed put at River Plate before announcing he was to leave at the end of this year.

Now, he’s on Barcelona’s radar, with former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel also on the list, and there’s a possibility either one comes in for Xavi in the near future.

Xavi only joined Barcelona towards the end of last year, but has had a stuttering time, despite the heavy spending that the club were involved in earlier in the summer.

They signed a host of top players through the activation of levers – the sale of shares against future profits – and they need the reward for it as it was a big risk.
