Real Madrid are weighing up an approach for Mauro Icardi in the upcoming January transfer window with the ambition of ensuring that they make the Champions League final, FootballTransfers is told.

Los Blancos' goals have come predominantly via Jude Bellingham this season, who has been operating in the No.10 role.

There is a feeling at the club that they can not just rely on Joselu to provide goals upfront as the Spaniard has just five in 13 La Liga matches so far this term. The injury to David Alaba, which will likely keep him up until the end of the season, means that a majority of the funds that the club use will likely go to a centre-back replacement for the second half of the season.

Icardi has enjoyed a revival in form since joining Galatasaray permanently last summer, with an impressive record of 17 goals in 25 games for the Turkish club. We are told that the 30-year-old is now seeking new challenges amidst his newfound form.

We revealed yesterday that Manchester United are also interested in signing Icardi on an initial loan deal, with hopes of tying down a spot in Europe next year.

Icardi has enjoyed a resurgence of his career in Turkey following some torrid tenures in France and Italy of late.

The striker joined Galatasaray on an initial loan last year before he signed a three-year contract with the club in the summer from Paris Saint-Germain for a transfer fee of €10m. He has been a standout performer for the Super Lig club and this has attracted interest from several elite clubs.
