Mbappe set to TRADEMARK his celebration ahead of Real Madrid move
Kylian Mbappe is ready to make his trademark goal celebration just that, with the PSG striker poised to safeguard the rights to the folded arms action that he typically displays after netting.
Mbappe, who is set to move to Real Madrid from the Ligue 1 champions this summer when his contract expires at Parc des Princes, is seeking to enhance his brand before his big transfer to Spain, AS reports.
The Spanish source indicates that Mbappe has requested trademark protection for his name and his goal celebration in the EU.
The request was formalised by a Parisian law firm on 8 February and will go before the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante.
One of his demands when negotiating a contract with Los Blancos has been that he retains his image rights, and with this in mind, he is moving to strengthen these.
The 25-year-old superstar already has seven trademarks in place but he is now trying to get ‘Mbappe’ locked down.
He is also seeking to trademark his goal celebration by reserving the rights to an image of a figure with their arms crossed, hands in armpits and smiling.
Furthermore, he is reportedly working to have two of his most memorable soundbites trademarked. ‘Moi tu m’parles pas d’age’ and ‘Le football il a changé’ – ‘Don’t talk to me about my age’ and ‘Football has changed’ – are the two quotes he wishes to secure.
What Mbappe can do with trademarks
AS reports that Mbappe is seeking to secure the intellectual property to all this in order to protect their commercial use in products as diverse as toothpaste, perfumery, diving suits, jewellery, umbrellas and travel bags.
He will also have exclusive usage on them for household linen, clothing and footwear, toys, video games and even Christmas tree decorations, according to the Spanish report.
