Vinicius Junior could be on the verge of making a genuinely shocking transfer this summer.

Vini Jr. has matured into one of the greatest players in the world during his time at Real Madrid, but Kylian Mbappe's arrival last summer has put the Brazilian in the shadows a bit.

Most relevantly, Mbappe earns a lot more than Vini does in terms of wages. And Vini wants to redress that balance given his importance to the club's recent success.

However, Alejandro Alcazar reports for Sport that when Vini broached the subject of pay parity with Mbappe, Real Madrid told him that they would not break their salary structure by paying him the king's ransom they are paying Mbappe, since he arrived for free.

This allegedly has led Vini, whose current deal expires in summer 2027, to start looking seriously at a move to the Saudi Pro League, where he would have his pick of the four clubs owned by the state-backed Public Investment Fund (PIF) and the transfer fee would likely be a word record.

The twist, however, is that Vini would only sign for two years in Saudi Arabia, after which time he would be free to return to Real Madrid (where Florentino Perez would still be president as his mandate runs until 2029).

Real Madrid say no, for now

As it stands, Alcazar reports that Real Madrid are not interested in selling Vini, but that stance could change if Vini applies pressure. Historically whenever a player has tried to strong-arm Florentino Perez, he has simply sold them no matter their stature.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, two Real Madrid legends bigger and better than Vini, were both moved on when their attitude outgrew their usefulness to the club.

And with Kylian Mbappe vastly outscoring Vini this season, and truth be told even outplaying him in 2025, Vini would do well to tread lightly on this issue.

It is well within the realms of believabiliy for Madrid to sell Vini, especially as it would solve the tactical logjam where three of their four best attackers all want to play in that same left half-space.
