Chelsea are looking to add to their attack, having had a stuttering start to the season, and need to bring in a forward before the end of the transfer window.

The Blues have been weighing up a move for Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but are considering other options in case that deal can’t be wrapped up by deadline day.

Chelsea lost Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner over the summer and only signed Raheem Sterling, leaving them short in attack for the rest of the season.

Now, according to Spanish outlet Sport, Chelsea are considering a move for one of their former players, Alvaro Morata, who played for Chelsea between 2017 and 2019.

Chelsea consider Morata move

Morata signed for the London club for a £60 million fee from Real Madrid back in 2017, but struggled to make much of an impact and only scored 24 goals, despite a positive start with the club.

He then went on loan to Atletico Madrid in 2019, after which his move became permanent, and has since spent time on loan at Juventus during the 2021-22 season and done well with the Spanish national team.

Morata returned to Atletico Madrid this season after Juventus couldn’t afford making his deal permanent, and there were doubts over his future in the Spanish capital.

Over the summer, clubs including Manchester United have been interested in Morata, but there have been no concrete offers for him, however, his performances could grant him a move soon.

He has impressed in pre-season, scoring a hat-trick against Juventus, and opened the domestic season with a brace against Getafe in a 3-0 win.

There have been some suggestions that coach Diego Simeone is keen on keeping him, but Atletico Madrid’s financial situation may force them to sell in the coming days before the transfer window ends.

Chelsea were sluggish in attack in their loss to Leeds United over the weekend, proving the need to bring in another forward as they lacked firepower up top.

They have an offer in place for Aubameyang, but are awaiting Barcelona’s decision before the former Arsenal man can finally make a return to London.
