Barcelona drop Bernardo Silva transfer hint
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has not confirmed that his club are chasing Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva – but he certainly strongly suggested that another transfer could be just around the corner for the Catalan club.
It proved a rather frustrating opening night of the La Liga season for Barcelona as they were held to a scoreless home draw against Rayo Vallecano, despite being able to register all of their new signings with the exception of Jules Kounde.
After a spectacular pre-season, it was certainly not what the Catalan public had expected, particularly with Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen all cleared for action.
Nevertheless, Laporta hinted that Barcelona are ready to make another big move before the close of the transfer window.
Laporta’s hints stoke Silva rumours
When asked directly by DAZN about the prospect of signing Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, he replied: “I won't say anything about signings out of respect for the clubs where they play, but it's true that we talk to clubs if we want a player.
“Sometimes you get bad signals, but I think when you work hard, you get what you want.
“The transfer window is not over yet. We are still on August 13 and there is more than half a month to go and we can work to make the team more competitive.”
Without saying as much, Laporta went as far to suggest that negotiations have started and that Barcelona are confident of landing Bernardo Silva.
Certainly, given the way the Portugal international waved goodbye to the Etihad Stadium after Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth earlier the same day, it would suggest that a deal is advancing as well as the Spanish club would hope.
After Lewandowski, Raphinha and Kounde, then, Barcelona can look forward to securing another star name in Bernardo Silva.
