Barcelona have been looking to let go of Martin Braithwaite, but the forward is proving difficult to sell and he is not in the club’s plans for the season either.

Braithwaite was left out of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States and hasn’t featured in any of their opening two La Liga matches thus far.

There is interest in the player from lower La Liga and Premier League sides, namely Mallorca, who are keen to bring him to boost their survival bid.

However, there is no official offer, and Braithwaite will has a few conditions if he is to terminate his contract with the club, which he wants met.

Braithwaite demands big fee

The Dane currently has two more years on his contract with the club – which runs until the end of the 2023-24 season – and he wants a compensation fee if Barcelona do wish to terminate it.

He wants a sum of €5 million if the Blaugrana wish for him to leave, which would then allow other clubs to sign him up on a free transfer.

Mallorca are reportedly waiting for Braithwaite to be released from his Barcelona contract and are unwilling to pay a transfer fee for him, before taking on his contract.

Last week, the Danish FA criticized Barcelona’s handling of the situation and asked the Spanish club to show more decency in their actions.

Michael Sahl Hansen, head of the Danish Players' Association, spoke in defence of his countryman: "The treatment Martin is getting is completely unreasonable. It is probably somewhere between bullying and harassment,

“It's shameful how Barcelona are trying to get him out of his contract, out of his job. A player who came to their rescue when they were under pressure is now in disgrace. Where is the decency?

"A contract is a contract and Barcelona and Martin have committed themselves for two more years. Martin must continue to honour his part of the agreement.”

Braithwaite joined Barcelona in February 2020 and has made 58 appearances for the club in the time since, scoring 10 goals for them in the process.
