Martin Braithwaite is still on the transfer market, but his situation is becoming sour, as he is proving reluctant to leave, with Barcelona considering terminating his contract.

Braithwaite has not been given a squad number for the upcoming season, despite being registered with La Liga, and hasn’t played any part in the club’s pre-season tour or first match of the season.

Last month, he was also jeered by the club’s fans during the team’s presentation after the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Pumas, much to the confusion of many.

Now, Michael Sahl Hansen, head of the Danish Players' Association, has spoken in his support of his countryman and criticized the actions of the club.

Danish chief unhappy with Braithwaite treatment

"The treatment Martin is getting is completely unreasonable. It is probably somewhere between bullying and harassment,” Hansen said.

He continued: “It's shameful how Barcelona are trying to get him out of his contract, out of his job. A player who came to their rescue when they were under pressure is now in disgrace. Where is the decency?"

"A contract is a contract and Barcelona and Martin have committed themselves for two more years. Martin must continue to honour his part of the agreement.

“And Barcelona should do the same. Furthermore, it would be good if one of the biggest clubs in the world treated its players with more respect," Hansen added

Hansen later added that the Danish FA can’t do anything to support Braithwaite as Barcelona are doing nothing illegal on paper.

There are reports that Barcelona will consider terminating Braithwaite’s contract, after being disappointed by his behaviour over the last few weeks.

Braithwaite has a contract with Barcelona until 2024 and Barcelona have tried to get him off the books for a while, and the player himself is unwilling to terminate his contract, despite barely playing.

He apparently has offers from several clubs across Italy and Spain, as well as a few franchises in Major League Soccer, so there is no shortage of interest in him.
