Barcelona have had a difficult international window with several of their players suffering from injuries in the early part of it, hampering their good start to the season.

The Blaugrana went into the international break with positivity, having played good football and competing right at the very top of the La Liga table.

Several key members of their side have suffered injuries with some of them being long-term and possibly even requiring surgeries to fix their issues, keeping them out of first-team action for a prolonged period.

Now, given the extent of the injury issues they have suffered, they may be entitled to some compensation from FIFA as a result of a ruling, which could benefit them financially.

Barcelona to receive FIFA compensation

Ronald Araujo suffered a serious injury while on international duty with Uruguay and should he opt for surgery, he could be out for six to eight weeks, putting his World Cup participation in doubt.

The defender does not want to miss the chance of playing in the World Cup, but has made it clear he will listen to the advice given to him by Barcelona’s doctors.

He is expected to miss at least a month of football for Barcelona regardless, and as a result, FIFA will compensate the club for the loss of one of their main defenders.

FIFA rules state that if a player misses more than 28 days of football having been on international duty, football’s governing body compensate the club based on the player’s salary.

The maximum compensation FIFA can give out is €7.5 million, which would be valuable to Barcelona as they pay Araujo’s wages despite the player not being able to play.

Barcelona officials are set to meet on Monday to discuss how to treat Araujo, with the player, Xavi and club doctors ready to provide the right course of action for the future.
