Gavi could seal Barcelona contract extension after Bayern clash
Barcelona are hoping to wrap up negotiations over a contract for Gavi this week, soon after the Champions League group stage match against Bayern Munich.
The Blaugrana were keen to extend Gavi’s deal with the club after an impressive 2021/22 campaign where he made his breakthrough with the club.
He turned 18 in August and Barcelona wished to give him a professional contract then, having seen him rise through the ranks at the club.
After weeks of negotiations and Barcelona wiggling their way through their financial issues, there is now a good chance for Barcelona to confirm the renewal of Gavi’s contract.
Barcelona look to wrap up Gavi talks
Gavi is quite an important player for Barcelona this season and is one of only three players to have started all five league games for the club in this campaign, alongside Ronald Araujo and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Barcelona want to extend his deal for another four years – taking his contract up to 2026 – and wish to do it before he potentially jets off for international duty with the Spanish national team.
There have been several suitors for Gavi despite Barcelona’s public desire to keep him at the club: Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have all been keeping an eye on the situation.

Gavi himself was keen to stay at Barcelona and saw the renewal as his only option for his long term future, with no other factors being considered.
Gavi’s rise through the club was quick: last season, he made 47 appearances across all competitions and even earned a call-up to the Spanish national team, where he is now a regular member.
Considering the trajectory he is on, he is expected to be on the plane to Qatar this winter for the World Cup and is already well-admired by Luis Enrique, who often praises the maturity of the midfielder.
