Jordi Alba at Barcelona: What is the latest?
Barcelona are set for a frantic deadline day with several departures planned, and one of them could be that of long-serving Jordi Alba.
It’s been reported recently that the club are in talks with Serie A side Inter over a loan departure of Alba, which has come as a surprise to many, including the player himself.
Going into the final day of the transfer window, there were several departures planned by the club, including that of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Martin Braithwaite and others, but Alba was not expected to be one.
However, the situation has changed for the left-back, and he could find himself playing in Italy in the coming days as Inter are waiting for a response.
Alba angered by Barcelona decision
Xavi has reportedly told Alba that he is not part of his plans for the rest of the season, and in order to play, he must leave the club or remain on the bench with a secondary role.
Barcelona are planning to sign Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso before the transfer deadline and it seems as though he’ll be the primary option at left-back for the rest of the season.
They also have Alejandro Balde, who recently impressed for them in the league and the possibility of him going out on loan in case Alba doesn’t leave is still open.
Barcelona are eager to have Alba leave the club in the final hours of the transfer window – a decision that the player isn’t very happy with given the suddenness of it.
Barcelona and Inter have reached an agreement in principle for the loan of Jordi Alba to Inter for the 2022/23 season, per @gerardromero.

The initial agreement between Barcelona and Inter was a loan spell with the Spanish side willing to cover 60 percent of his wages, leaving Inter to the rest.
He has reportedly told the club he is willing to leave in 2023, and according to some sources, has rejected Inter’s advances over a loan spell at San Siro.
Alba has also refused to reduce his wages any further, which is one of the other alternatives presented to him, with Barcelona continuously offering him to other clubs across Europe.
What happens for the rest of the day will be interesting: Alba is a transfer listed player, one that Barcelona want to see leaving and they already have a replacement lined up in Alonso.
