Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio has refused to rule out a move to Barcelona in the future as he ponders his future, with his contract set to run out.

Asensio has been linked to a host of clubs in recent weeks, with his contract set to come to an end this season, and there hasn’t been an offer from Real Madrid that he is appealed by.

The Spaniard was linked to moves to various Premier League clubs such as Manchester United and Arsenal, with Real Madrid open to selling in the summer, but he stayed in the Spanish capital.

Now, it’s emerged that Barcelona may be interested in taking the player on a free next summer, and Asensio hasn’t denied the possibility of a move.

Asensio doesn't shut down rumours

Speaking to El Partidazo de la Cope, Asensio was asked about his future and about interest from Barcelona: "Honestly, I don't know if Barça wants me. Many other clubs have come out like Barcelona."

He was then asked if he ruled out playing for Barcelona in the future, to which he said: "I haven't thought about it or valued it. There are many rumours, speculations, and it's normal.

“In seven months I can sign with any club and it's normal for many clubs to leave, and they will leave more surely. I haven't thought about it, nor have I valued it. Right now, I can't give you an answer, I don't know," Asensio said.

A move to Barcelona would obviously be controversial, and make him the first player since Luis Enrique in 1996 to go from Real Madrid to the Blaugrana.

Luis Figo was the last player to break the Clasico divide after his shocking world record move in the year 2000, and it’s been a tough barrier to break down since, which is unsurprising.
