Barcelona are looking to add to their midfield options in the coming years, and they could move for Chelsea star Jorginho in 2023 to help their cause.

The club have good options in their squad at present, having a decent mix of youth and experience, but want a solution in case Sergio Busquets departs the club at the end of the season.

The Blaugrana currently have Pedri, Gavi, Nico Gonzalez, Frenkie de Jong, Franck Kessie and Pablo Torre amongst their ranks but want a player fit for the holding role in midfield.

This has proven to be a problem for them in recent times and as a result, Jorginho could come up as an option for them in the near future.

Jorginho's agent spotted in Barcelona

Busquets will become a free agent at the end of the campaign as his contract will run out, with offers coming in for him from Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.

Barcelona have shown interest in various players to act as his replacement including Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves, and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, but talks for Jorginho may now accelerate.

According to journalist Giacomo Locabellis, Jorginho’s agent was in Barcelona over the last few days and that has ignited talk over a possible move for the player.

Jorginho will also become a free agent at the end of the season as his contract with Chelsea runs out, with the Blues and the player yet to reach an agreement over terms for the future.

The midfielder is free to talk to other clubs from January onwards, and Barcelona may be an option, as they won’t have to spend a transfer fee to secure his signature.

In the last few windows, Barcelona have made a host of free signings including Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Memphis Depay to help them through the financial troubles.

Jorginho may be the next on the list and while he is older, over the age of 30, he may be a good short-term signing to help the club on the pitch and in a financial aspect.
