Barcelona have identified some positions to improve and have marked it as a priority with right-back being one of them given their struggles there.

The Blaugrana have had several players play there including Hector Bellerin, Sergi Roberto, Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo but have had issues there due to fitness and consistency.

As a result, they are looking to get that issues fixed as quickly as possible and have some targets in mind, with Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta being the most reasonable.

However, there is another player they are looking at and have been keeping an eye on him for a while, with a view to a future move: Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Meunier.

Barcelona eyeing Meunier

Barcelona were interested in Meunier in the summer but weren’t able to get a move done for him and they focused on other targets instead, bringing in Bellerin from Arsenal.

It was also noted that Dortmund didn’t want to sell the player at the time – as confirmed by the player – but matters have changed since.

According to Mundo Deportivo, they are keeping an eye on the player and have been in talks with his representatives over getting a transfer done for the player.

Now, he could be set for a January transfer and the German club may be open to a move given his contract at Borussia Dortmund runs out in the summer of 2024.

At the age of 31, Meunier may not be the long-term option Barcelona are looking for but he could be someone to help them over the course of the season as they look to maintain their lead in La Liga.

They are still keeping an eye for players in the summer and have been interested in the likes of Diogo Dalot, Juan Foyth and Benjamin Pavard for the role for the long run.
