Bernardo Silva has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent times and that interest has been reignited in the past few days.

Recently, it was reported that Barcelona would be willing to pay up to €100 million to secure the services of the Portuguese star and could get him as early as the January transfer window.

Xavi has always been an admirer of Silva’s talents and even saw him as a replacement for Frenkie de Jong if the Dutchman left the club in the summer transfer window.

Now, one must ask if forking out that much money on Silva is really worth it, especially when they have other priorities in the transfer window to improve their squad.

Bernardo Silva money can be spent elsewhere

It’s been well-known that Barcelona are looking for players in two positions: right-back and the centre of midfield to succeed Sergio Busquets in the next year.

The club are short on right-backs and over the course of the season have had to play Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Hector Bellerin and Sergi Roberto in that role.

All of them have suffered with either injury or lack of form and the club will want a permanent solution to the problem in upcoming windows.

Elsewhere in midfield, they have looked at other options to help their midfield pivot and have identified targets like Wolves’ Ruben Neves and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

Forking out up to €100 million on one player at a time where they are struggling with their finances, especially after their Champions League exit in the group stages would be a bad idea.

It’s well known the club still have debts to pay and they aren’t in a position to be activating more levers to help them, so they will need to spend their money efficiently to prevent further wastage.

Silva, while an excellent player and seemingly having a dream to play for Barcelona, perhaps wouldn’t be the best use of the little money they can spend in a transfer window.
