The Premier League champions are looking for a new midfielder to sign as Ilkay Gundogan’s contract is set to run out at the end of the season.

Gundogan is yet to commit his future to the club and there is doubt he will renew, with interest coming from abroad in the form of Barcelona.

Both Gundogan and Kroos are now free to discuss a move to clubs abroad starting from the start of January and a transfer could be on the cards for both.

Man City interested in Kroos move

According to Sport, Manchester City are big admirers of Kroos and are keen to get his experience into their side for the next campaign to carry the team forward.

City have reportedly already made an approach having spoken to his representatives, however, there are some doubts from their end over getting a deal done.

Real Madrid are firmly committed on getting Kroos’ contract renewed and don’t want to lose him anytime soon, but they are waiting on the player.

They want the player to tell them how he feels mentally and physically before deciding to give him an extension on his contract.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola previously worked with Kroos at Bayern Munich in the 2013-14 season and the midfielder was full of compliments for the manager.

"Guardiola fought until the last day for me to stay at Bayern. If I have to choose a coach who is perfect for my game, it's Guardiola. I really enjoyed the year with him, he improved me a lot," the German said.

The two reuniting at the Etihad Stadium is a real possibility and it would work well in City’s favour to get them both back together.
