Man Utd learn Barcelona's De Jong stance as La Liga giants face January sales
The saga surrounding Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona is set to continue with Manchester United still monitoring the situation.
This comes as a result of Barcelona’s tough financial condition which hasn’t been helped by their recent Champions League group stage exit.
Earlier in the week, President Joan Laporta admitted the club can’t make any signings due to La Liga’s Financial Fair Play restrictions and that affects their January plans.

It may also force them into some sales of players and that brings up the question of Frenkie de Jong once again, with the Dutchman still chased by Manchester United.
Man Utd could return for De Jong
Barcelona can only sign players in January on the ‘one-by-one method’ – for every million in salary released through sales, the club will be able to add another player.
There are many players Barcelona are considering the sale of – the most likely is Memphis Depay, who hasn’t featured in any of their last 13 competitive matches.

However, De Jong may be forced to leave, despite the player’s resistance and desire to stay at the club until the end of his contract in 2026.
Over the summer, Manchester United chased De Jong for 17 weeks on the recommendation of manager Erik ten Hag but were unable to land their main target.
They’re hoping things can be different now but may face a challenge as he has impressed in this Barcelona team this season and is seen as Sergio Busquets’ successor.
🚨 Xavi is convinced with Frenkie De Jong, following his performances in midfield whenever he replaced Busi. The player has proven the club right by his determination to stay in the summer. @gbsans #Transfers 🇳🇱⭐️

The two clubs will have the chance to meet soon as they are drawn to play each other in the Europa League knockout round play-off in February.
Whether De Jong plays for Manchester United in that tie remains to be seen but what’s clear is that the interest is still there and Barcelona may be tempted for a sale if the price is right.
