Carlo Ancelotti has received an offer to become the next manager of the Brazil national football team, the Brazilian FA (CBF) has reported.

Speculation has surrounded the future of the Italian since the World Cup, when Tite left his post in charge of the Selecao.

Several experienced European names have been linked with potentially taking charge of Brazil, including Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, but the one most often linked with the post has been Ancelotti.

And Ednaldo Rodrigues, the president of the CBF, has admitted that Ancelotti is the coach that he wants.

“We’ve made an offer to him but we’re trying to know if he wants to come,” he told beIN Sports. “We have a plan A and I will say this for the first time, we’ve never hidden that Ancelotti is our favourite.”

Ancelotti’s stance on Brazil job

Ancelotti has so far refused to be drawn into speculation over his future, repeatedly underlining the fact that his contract with Real Madrid is until 2024 and that he intends to see that deal out.

However, he could be ushered out of the Bernabeu in the summer if the club’s fortunes do not improve.

Real Madrid have made their traditionally strong run in the Champions League, in which they have reached the semi-finals, with two dates against Manchester City waiting.

Ancelotti’s side have also gone well in the Copa del Rey and will play in Saturday’s final against Osasuna – a match they are strong favourites to win.

But Los Blancos have not fared well in the league this season. They find themselves a distant second in the standings behind Barcelona and are in danger of slipping behind a resurgent Atletico Madrid to go into third.

Even if they succeed in the Champions League, Ancelotti’s future does not look secure, and that could pave a path to Brazil and his first national team job.
