Real Madrid have the option to re-sign Japan star Takefusa Kubo for just €33 million, despite the fact he has a €60m release clause at Real Sociedad.

Kubo, 22, left Los Blancos to join Sociedad on a permanent deal last summer for just , after four separate loan spells away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

The winger spent time at RCD Mallorca (x2), Villarreal and Getafe before sealing a permanent move in 2022.

However, Real Madrid have the option to repurchase the Japan international for only €33m, due to a clause included in his sale to Real Sociedad.

As part of the deal, Real Madrid included a clause that means they will earn 50% of the profit if Kubo leaves Real Sociedad, as reported by Marca, meaning they can also re-sign him for a reported fee of €33m, despite the 22-year-old having a €60m release clause.

Kubo has become the main man at Sociedad this season, following David Silva’s retirement and Alexander Sorloth’s departure, and he has already scored three goals and provided one assist in La Liga so far this campaign.

Kubo to leave Real Sociedad?

He was unable to help La Real to victory against his former team on Sunday night - with goals from Federico Valverde and Joselu earning a 2-1 victory for Los Blancos - but he did complete three dribbles, provide four key passes and win four free-kicks (all game-highs).

Earlier this summer, Kubo shut down rumours of a return to Real Madrid by stating “I’m a Real Sociedad player” while he turned down a move to the Saudi Pro League too.

Furthermore, Barcelona expressed an interest in signing the Japanese star earlier in 2023, but a move to Camp Nou seems unlikely now given the emergence of Spanish wonderkid Lamine Yamal.

Yamal plays on the right-wing, just like Kubo, while Joao Felix, Ferran Torres and Raphinha are also options for Xavi in that position.
