Felix, 23, is on loan at Camp Nou for the 2023-24 season, but he remains an Atletico Madrid player.

The former Benfica wonderkid spent the final six months of last campaign on loan at Premier League giants Chelsea, but the Blues decided against making the move permanent during the summer.

Instead, Felix returned to the Wanda Metropolitano before revealing his “dream” of playing for Barcelona. The Blaugrana finally agreed a loan move for the 23-year-old as the summer window drew to a close and they are now hoping to sign Felix permanently in 2024.

According to Sport, via GOAL, Barca are now formulating a plan to present Atletico Madrid with a “reasonable offer” for Felix next summer.

Atletico have previously stated that their asking price for the Portugal international is €80 million as they look to recoup as much of the €127m they spent on Felix as possible.

That may be unachievable for Barcelona given their well-documented financial issues, but they are reportedly discussing how much to offer for Felix.

Felix’s wage cut

Barcelona’s vice-president Eduard Romeu has confirmed that Felix took a major wage cut to secure a transfer to Camp Nou.

He told Spanish outlet L'Esportiu: “It’s true, Joao Felix has reduced his salary to €400,000 to join. It is the case of a person who has made a very important effort to join.

“It's very nice to see this from a guy who was probably not at his best at his club, but here he has been magnificent.

“Make no mistake about it, however, the club that gave Felix to us has an interest in this being a great showcase. Hopefully, at the end of the year, we will have the conflict of having to consider his continuity.”

Felix has scored three goals and provided three assists in eight Barcelona appearances so far.
