The Mbappe to Real Madrid soap opera is a long-running one and a familiar one for fans of football transfer news.

The PSG attacker’s contract is up at the end of the June 2024, at which point Los Blancos wish to sign him as a free agent. This is the position that these three parties found themselves in 18 months ago, when Mbappe confounded expectations by deciding to remain with the Ligue 1 champions.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are still closely following the 24-year-old, whose retinue have told them that the player wants to sign for them, according to Ramon Alvarez de Mon.

“Florentino Perez doesn’t know if Mbappe wants to sign. Fayza, however, has given him a guarantee that Mbappe wants to play at Real Madrid,” the transfer specialist explained on YouTube.

Los Blancos, meanwhile, are not as intent on chasing the France international star as they once were.

“Madrid are tired of this,” De Mon explained. “There’s no longer the obsession that they had before.

“They love Mbappe, but they believe that he has to make the decision in January. His mother knows the conditions.

“There’s an agreement between Fayza and Florentino, but there’s not this obsession for Mbappe that they had before that would stop them from going for Erling Haaland.”

Will Mbappe sign a new deal with PSG?

PSG’s belief that Mbappe may yet remain at the club is likely to be legitimate and well-founded, the transfer specialist says.

“The information that I have is that there’s no agreement today for him to renew his contract, but Nasser Al-Khelaifi does not generally lie and he says there is hope,” he explained.

“If that doesn’t happen, he thinks PSG will receive compensation.”

Any ‘compensation’ that PSG get from Mbappe is liable to be the player foregoing any bonuses, such as the €150 million loyalty payment he is due when his contract expires.
