Alphonso Davies remains one of Real Madrid’s key transfer targets for next year, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

The Canada international has been heavily linked with a Bayern Munich exit for some time, with Real Madrid seen as his most likely destination.

Chelsea have previously shown interest in Davies, while Manchester City are reportedly ready to rival Los Blancos for his signature in 2024.

Davies’ current deal at Bayern is due to expire in less than two years time, meaning the Bundesliga giants may be forced to sanction a sale next summer in order to risk losing him on a free transfer when his contract expires in 2025.

Real Madrid signed Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano for €5 million during the summer, but Carlo Ancelotti has not made the 24-year-old Spaniard an immediate first choice at left-back.

He has made 13 appearances across La Liga and the Champions League this campaign, but has started just one league game in Real Madrid’s past eight games.

As a result, left-back is seen as a priority position for Ancelotti’s side, with right-back also a concern, hence their long-standing interest in Chelsea captain Reece James.

Romano has now provided an update on Real Madrid’s pursuit of the defender, posting on Twitter: “Understand Alphonso Davies remains one of the main targets for Real Madrid in 2024. He's not leaving in January but Real keep monitoring him for the next summer window.

“It all depends on Bayern but Real appreciate Davies and will keep sending their people to track him.”

Davies has made 18 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season, with all three of his assists coming in the Bundesliga.

Thomas Tuchel’s team are currently second in the German top flight table, with 29 points from their opening 11 games. Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen are top, with 31 points on the board.
