Real Madrid lead Barcelona in race for €100m star

Feyenoord and Mexico forward Santiago Gimenez is reportedly more likely to join Real Madrid than Barcelona as the two Spanish giants prepare to battle for his signature next year.
The 22-year-old has scored 15 goals and provided three assists in 13 games in all competitions this season, including a brace on his Champions league debut against Lazio in late October.
Gimenez’s form in the Netherlands has caught the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs and Feyenoord are aware of the talent at their disposal.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes that €45 million might be enough to secure a deal for Gimenez, but 90min have reported that Feyenoord will not accept an offer of below €100m for the Mexican star.
Their asking price has reportedly been set after Ajax were able to convince Manchester United to pay €95m for Brazilian winger Antony, and Feyenoord believe Gimenez is good enough to become the all-time Eredivisie record sale.

What has been said?
Several elite clubs are interested in Gimenez and transfer journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport: “Santiago Gimenez is causing all sorts of fuss at the moment, and a lot of recruitment teams across the Premier League are tracking his situation.
“From what I have been able to gather so far, a move to Tottenham would be a lot more plausible than a move to West Ham or Fulham because this is a player that is already used to the Champions League and feels he has a place at the very top of the game.
“But there are big teams that Spurs are also going to have to win over if they make their interest firm, including Real Madrid.
“I’m told they [Real Madrid] are more likely than Barcelona as a landing spot at this moment and, when we start talking about these sorts of things, it’s pretty clear why a club like Fulham might have their work cut out to sign him.
“He’s also going to cost big money - I think somewhere towards £60 million. But Feyenoord don’t even want to talk about that until the season is over.”
