Osimhen discontent fuelling blockbuster Barcelona transfer
Barcelona's pursuit of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been given a boost by the news that there is a major rift in Napoli's squad.
The reigning Serie A champions are in the midst of a dire season. Their title defence hasn't been much of a defence at all and the Partenopei languish in ninth in the standings, also reportedly being on the verge of sacking their second coach of the season in Walter Mazzarri.
Nigerian sharpshooter Victor Osimhen, despite recently penning a one-year extension with a €130 million release clause, is on his way out and will depart the Italian side in the summer. While his exit will likely leave the club in disarray, he is already the cause for something of a civil war at the club.
At least that is according to Corriere della Sera, which claims that Napoli players are sick of the fact that some people in the dressing room get preferential treatment. Osimhen, it is asserted, is one of the players who is seemingly above reproach.
It is said that despite Osimhen not playing well, having thrown a tantrum over his new contract and returning from AFCON late and unfit, the striker continues to be picked, much to the chagrin of his teammates.
Barca want Khvicha
The constant turmoil Napoli have been engulfed in so far this season naturally has a negative effect on everyone, including the club's biggest stars. Besides Osimhen, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is also facing an uncertain future.
According to Spanish media, the Georgian magician has been identified by Barcelona as the preferred option to reinforce the wings - and they want to sign him already this summer. Whether he will be on the market remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: he won't come cheap.
How exactly the Blaugrana plan to afford him is not yet known, though it is clear that funds will need to be raised. Indeed, Barcelona will likely be forced into several major sales to balance the books and wingers Raphinha and Ferran Torres are players constantly linked with an exit. Still, it will be a tall task for the Catalans to muster the resources necessary to pursue a deal for 'Kvaradona.'
